The Karthi starrer spy thriller has earned Rs 100 crore worldwide | Techno Glob


Tamil-language spy thriller Karthi, Karthi, starring an ex-RA officer Chandrabose alias Sardar and his son Vijaya Prakash as a police inspector, released in theaters on October 21, during the extended Eid weekend. The film received an overwhelming response from critics and filmgoers who termed it a ‘blockbuster Diwali release’.

Now, after its successful second weekend, PS Mithran’s directorial weekend is close to Rs 100 crore. On Monday, October 31, entertainment trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter account and reported that the film has grossed Rs 85 crore worldwide, along with sharing the announcement poster.

Apart from Karthi, Sardar, Raashi Khanna, Rajesh Vijayan, Leela and Manishkanth also play important roles. Ananya Pandey’s father Chunky Pandey, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday on September 26, is also making his debut in Tamil cinema with this film, which was also dubbed in Telugu.

After the huge success of the film, Karthi and PS Mithran announced Sardar 2 at a successful meeting in Chennai on Tuesday, October 25. The makers also unveiled the teaser announcing the sequel, which instantly went viral on YouTube. Production banner Prince Pictures shared the video on their social media handles with the caption, “Once a spy, always a spy!” The mission will start soon! #Sardar2”.

Sardar is Karthi’s third theatrical release this year, featuring Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram in a voice-over role. The actor was first seen in the masala film Veeroman, which hit the theaters in August and went on to become one of the highest grossing Tamil films of the year by collecting around Rs 60 crore.

He was recently seen in Mani Ratnam’s Puneyan Selvaan 1, playing the role of Villavarayan Vandedevan. The film has earned more than Rs 450 crore at the box office. Along with Karthi, the multi-starrer featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chayan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha.
