Meta and Jio Platforms on Monday launched the first shopping experience on WhatsApp, allowing consumers to shop at JioMart on WhatsApp chat. “A world first, JioMart on WhatsApp enables users in India, including those who have never shopped online before, to seamlessly browse JioMart’s entire grocery catalog, add items to cart and make payments to complete their purchase – all without leaving the store. WhatsApp chat,” according to an official release from Reliance Retail.

A press release said the launch is “part of a strategic partnership between Meta and Jio Platforms to accelerate India’s digital transformation and enable people and businesses of all sizes to connect in new ways and fuel the country’s economic growth.” JioMart on WhatsApp is transforming the way businesses in India connect with consumers and simplify the consumer shopping experience.

Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta co-founder and CEO, took to Facebook and said, “We are excited to launch our partnership with JioMart in India. This is our first WhatsApp shopping experience — people can now buy groceries from JioMart over chat.”

The Meta CEO further stated that “business messaging is an area with real momentum and chat-based experiences will be the way people and businesses communicate in the coming years.”

Commenting on the development, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries, said, “Our vision is to make India the world’s leading digital society. When Jio Platforms and Meta announced our partnership in 2020, Mark and I shared our vision of bringing more people and businesses online and creating truly innovative solutions that add convenience to every Indian’s everyday life.”
