Reliance Jio to add 31 lakh new mobile users in May, says TRAI data | Techno Glob

Private telecom operator Reliance Jio strengthened its leadership in India’s telecom market as it acquired 31 lakh mobile subscribers in May, the sector regulator said on 19 July.

Reliance Jio gained 31.11 million wireless subscribers, taking its mobile customer base to 40.87 million, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) monthly subscriber data.

However, Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel added 10.27 million subscribers in May, taking its mobile user base to 36.21 million. While Vodafone Idea lost 7.59 million wireless subscribers during the same period, its subscriber base fell to 25.84 million in the same period.

Earlier on July 18, according to the data released by the Department of Telecommunications, Reliance Jio was deposited. 14,000 crores as real money as it is bidding for 5G airwaves. And, Bharti Airtel deposit 5,500 crore and Vodafone Idea deposited 2200 mln. Adani Data Networks has paid a small amount viz 100 million only.

According to the Department of Telecommunications, based on the actual cash deposit, the bidders will be eligible and get points to bid for the spectrum. Reliance Jio has 159,830 points, Bharti Airtel 66,330, Vodafone Idea 29,370 and Adani 1,650.

Thus, Jio can offer maximum price range 1.27 lakh crore, the maximum Bharti Airtel can bid for 48,000 crore of Spectrum, for Vodafone Idea 20,000 crore and Adani Data Network 700 mln.

The 5G spectrum auction will start on July 26 and the government is waiting to collect 80,000 mln 1 million as income from its sale.
