The Hindi dubbed version of ‘Puniyaan Seylan: I’ has earned Rs 7.50 crore in its first weekend at the Tamil box office. This is a decent collection for a dubbed movie. In Tamil Nadu, the period drama has grossed over Rs 52 crore. Pan-India, ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ opened with Rs 31.25 crore nett on Friday and racked up Rs 29 crore nett on Saturday and 32.25 crore nett on Sunday. In its three-day weekend, the drama stands at a total of Rs 92.50 crore nett, reports Boxofficeindia. ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ has emerged as a huge money spinner and its collections are steadily increasing.

Helmed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Puniyaan Ceylan: I’ is based on an epic of the same name. The film stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lakshmi and Sobhita Dhoolipala. Talking about how the lockdown affected the film, Mani Ratnam said, “The pandemic disturbed many things. We had planned the shoot in a certain way, but the last thing we wanted to do, we had to do soon. The schedule was kind of rearranged. There was also no relaxation in the lockdown and we had many locations to shoot. We had to make sure we shot with the right numbers without looking like a problem in the frame, and without crossing the restrictions. We had to be very careful while shooting. At no point in the film will you feel that it was shot during the pandemic. We shot it without compromise.
