PS1 Box Office: Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece crosses ₹ 400 crore worldwide | Techno Glob

Mani Ratnam’s Puneyan Selvaan 1 is having a dream run at the box office as the big-budget epic broke the drama. 400 crore club globally and according to trade sources will easily do the second 120 crore to finish the film’s lifetime collection 500 crores. PS 1 tells the story of the early life of Arulamojivarman (Punyan Selvan), who would become the Chola emperor Raja Raja I (947-1014). Jayam Ravi is playing the role of Arulmuzhivarman in the film while Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai are playing other important roles.

Industry tracker Ramesh Bala took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce that the PS1 has earned 400 crores. In the US, the film is now the highest-grossing Tamil film overtaking Rajinikanth’s 2.0.

Reliable trade sources believe that the PS1 will continue its successful run in theaters till Diwali. It is expected to earn another 120 crore during its run in the next two weeks.

In Tamil Nadu, PS1 is crossed 150 crores over the weekend. It is now the second highest grossing film in the state after Kamal Haasan’s Vikram which earned approx. 190 crores.

The film marked Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s return to Tamil cinema after a decade. Aishwarya plays Rani Nandini and there is also a glimpse of her dual character – her mute mother Mandakani Devi. Upon release, both audiences and critics were highly impressed with Aishwarya’s performance.

Mani Ratnam had recently said in an interview that the second part of the franchise will hit the theaters in 6 to 9 months and the team is currently busy with the post-production work.
