Ponniyin Selvan-1 tells the story of the early life of Arulmozhivarman (Ponniyin Selvan), who later became the Chola emperor Raja Raja I (947-1014). Tamil audience welcomed this movie with heart, they were waiting for this movie for a long time. We can say that this is not only the dream of Manirathanam but also of the Tamil people.
This is why the Ponniyin Selvan film had a long run at the box office, even with a new release on Diwali showing interest from distributors holding theaters for Ponniyin Selvan which shows the impact of the film.
The film was recently released on OTT and is available on rental basis and will be available to all regular subscribers from November 4.
The film features Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Sobhita Dhoolipala and Aishwarya Lakshmi. Ponniyin Selvan-1 marked Aishwarya Rai’s return to Tamil cinema after a decade. Aishwarya plays two roles – Nandini and her mute mother Mandakini Devi.
The second part of Ponniyin Selvan will be released in theaters next year. With the growing trend of pan-Indian films, the sequel to Puneen Selvan will surely have a frenzy around it, but some audiences feel that the film has not made much of an impact in other languages, and will release in the same manner. As the first part of the hype.
