Maharashtra Govt Removed ‘Security Cover’ From These MVA Leaders – Here’s Why | Techno Glob

The Maharashtra government has removed the ‘classified’ security cover of 25 leaders of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, the NCP and the Congress, an official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

This means that these MVA leaders will not have permanent police security or escort outside their homes. The decision was taken after a fresh assessment of their security approach, the official said.

Former cabinet ministers are also among those who lost their security cover. However, according to a PTI report, the security cover of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his family has been maintained.

Apart from Uddhav Thackeray, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and his daughter and Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, along with their families, have been kept under security cover.

Some NCP leaders Jayant Patil, Chhagan Bhujbal and jailed Anil Deshmukh have been removed from ‘classified’ security cover. Security arrangements have been made for NCP MLA Jitendra Awad.

Interestingly, Uddhav Thackeray’s personal secretary and trusted colleague Milind Narvekar has been given the ‘Y-Plus-Escort’ cover. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajit Pawar (NCP) and fellow NCP leader Dilip Valse-Patil, who was Home Minister in the previous MVA government, have also been given ‘Y-Plus-Escort’ cover, PTI reported.

Other leaders who have lost classified security cover include Nawab Malik (Nationalist), Vijay Wadettiwar, Balasaheb Thorat, Nana Patole, Satej Patil (all Congress), Bhaskar Jadhav (Shiv Sena), Dhanjay Munde (Nationalist), Sunil Kedare (Congress), Narahari . Jirwal (Nationalist) and Varun Sardesai (Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Eknath Khadse (Nationalist), Anil Parab and Sanjay Raut (both Shiv Sena UBT). Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Kalaben Deulkar also lost his security cover.

Congress leader Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, both former chief ministers, have been provided ‘Y category’ security.

All decisions regarding security cover have been taken professionally keeping in mind the threat perception and the decision has nothing to do with the political affiliation of the leaders, the official claimed.
