Action-comedy “Confidential Assignment 2: International” won a fifth consecutive weekend at the South Korean box office, while only American horror film “Smile” managed to crack the top five.
CJ Entertainment-distributed “Confidential Assignment 2” managed $1.64 million during the Friday-Sunday period, according to data from Kobes, a tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). This represented a 27% market share.

“Secret Assignment 2” recorded 27% over the weekend. It brought its total to $47 million, earning $6.52 million in ticket sales since release. 7, 2022.

“Life Is Beautiful” climbed from third to second on the weekly chart. It managed $1.12 million for a 12-day total of $3.92 million.

Japanese-animated “Crayon Shin Chan: School Mystery! The Splendid Tenkasu Academy “moved from fourth place to third place over the weekend. It grossed $913,000 for a total of $2.73 million.

“The Honest Candidate 2” suffered a 52% weekend drop, taking fourth place, for a total of $4.69 million.

“Issues” is a horror low-budget thriller that has been in North America for over two weeks and is now in wide international release, opening at number five in Korea. It earned $305,000 over the weekend and $371,000 over the five days from Wednesday.

Overall numbers were down for the sixth week out of the past seven, reflecting a weak flow of new release titles. The most recent weekend was compared to a long holiday weekend a week ago, and was 21% lower.

Distributors in Korea have resorted to re-releasing older films to fill the gap. A week ago it was “Avatar” that returned. Last weekend it was “Done” and specially created “Spider-Man: No Way Home – More Fun Content Version”. “Dune” earned $109,000. “Spider-Man” grossed $104,000.
