Iran: Video shows security forces beating and shooting a man as authorities order an investigation | Techno Glob

Iranian police said they would investigate an incident caught on camera in which security forces ambushed and shot a man, as a leading rights group called the country’s “crisis of impunity”.

In the video, several security officers are seen beating the man as he lies on the ground in front of a residential building, before one officer points a gun at the man and shoots him. The person filming the video can be heard saying, “They shot that guy with bullets … they must have killed that guy.”

It’s unclear what happened first or what condition the man was in when the video was shot. CNN could not independently verify the date or location of the video, which has been widely circulated on social media.

“After the release of a video clip of police officials beating up a citizen, a special order will be issued immediately to ascertain the exact time and place of the incident and to identify the culprits at the scene,” the police said. A statement, state-run Fars news agency reported on Tuesday. “Police do not condone such violent and unorthodox behavior and will certainly take action against violators.”

Amnesty International shared the same video and said on Tuesday it was “another terrifying reminder that the brutality of Iran’s security forces knows no bounds.”

“At a time of crisis of impunity, they have been given free rein to brutally beat and shoot protesters,” Amnesty added, calling on the UN Human Rights Council to “urgently investigate these crimes”.

This is not the first time police have been called to investigate videos of security forces attacking civilians.

In October, police said they would “issue a special order” to crack down on officers who physically harassed a woman on the streets of Tehran, state-aligned ISNA reported. The incident was caught on camera and showed a policeman inappropriately groping a woman as she tried to arrest her along with a group of other officers.
