Cyber, information warfare are new security threats facing the world: Rajnath | Latest News India | Techno Glob

AHMEDABAD: With advances in technology making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between internal and external security threats, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday cautioned against possible misuse by independent social media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the judiciary. To destroy the unity and security of the country.

“New types of threats are emerging that blur the line between internal and external security in hybrid warfare. Along with terrorism, cyber warfare and information warfare are new forms of security threats,” Singh said while addressing the second convocation of the National Defense University at Lawad in Gandhinagar district.

“Furthermore, there are issues like human trafficking and money laundering which are seemingly separate, but interrelated. All agencies must work in an integrated manner to address these challenges,” he added.

A separate social media can be used systematically to spread propaganda (against the security of the country), said the Defense Minister. “Freedom of social media is not bad, media should be free, but if media is free, it can be misused… In the name of freedom of expression, attempts are made to establish and promote dangerous and controversial things,” he said.

“If NGOs have freedom, they try to use NGOs in such a way that the entire system of the country is paralyzed. If the judiciary is independent, the legal system is used to try to stop or slow down development activities. If a country has a dynamic democracy, attempts are made to infiltrate political parties to attack its unity and security,” he added.

The government has adopted a holistic approach to strengthen all aspects of national security, he said.

Later in the day, Singh said that India has registered defense exports 8,000 crore in the six months of the current financial year and aims to achieve the annual export target 35,000 crore by 2025.

Speaking at the curtain raiser event of DefExpo, which begins in Gandhinagar on Tuesday and continues till October 22, Singh said the country’s defense sector has recorded value exports. 30,000 crore after 2014 when the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre.
