State-owned telecom provider BSNL has said it will approach Reliance Jio to upgrade its network to 4G and then 5G by installing around one million mobile towers. The government’s mega telecom order for the TCS-Tejas and C-DOT consortium is being disrupted to the tune of INR 17,000 crores. BSNL is reportedly approaching Reliance Jio due to issues related to high tender prices offered by Tata Group.
According to BSNL’s internal estimates, Tata Group companies have quoted a price range between INR 4316 crore and INR 6840 crore against the estimates prepared by BSNL. The consortium’s bids exceeded INR 20,000 crore in all the proposed options, but according to a TOI report, BSNL will cap it at INR 17,173 crore.
Regarding Reliance Jio, according to a news report, “Reliance Jio is known to have developed and deployed an indigenously developed EPC (4G core) which will also be upgraded to 5G. Reliance Jio can explore the possibility of partnering with any system integrator to deploy such a core in the BSNL network. Such the feasibility of the mechanism should be discussed at the Government of India level.
According to latest reports, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch 5G mobile services in the country tomorrow while addressing the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) in the presence of Reliance Jio’s Mukesh Ambani, Airtel’s Sunil Mittal and Vodafone Idea’s Kumar Mangalam Birla. 2022.
