home business Box office: “Bros” may only make $5 million after weekend crash…

“Bros,” billed as a very gay comedy, is a box office disaster.

Total receipts for Thursday and Friday came in at just $1.84 million. With $2.5 million coming in on Saturday and Sunday, “Bruce” stands to earn just under $5 million in its entire opening weekend.

“Bros” doesn’t have a big budget — $25 million max. But the film has been heavily publicized and marketed, something that most movies would do to make their own popcorn. This simply means that the public in general was not interested in watching a gay rom-com, but one with graphic sex scenes.

“Bruce” comes from Universal, which will also be releasing another film in the genre through its Focus Features soon under the name “Spoiler Alert.” Once it is finished, this genre will be strictly eliminated. What a disappointment for Billy Eichner and Judd Apatow, but it’s an example of Hollywood getting bogged down by reality despite its best intentions.
