Immediately after Mukesh Ambani stepped down as director of Reliance Jio, his elder son Akash Ambani was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s eldest son Akash was born on October 23, 1991. He studied at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and then graduated from Brown University with a degree in Economics. He showed interest in sports – cricket and football. He married Shloka Mehta, daughter of a diamond dealer and jeweler in Mumbai, and the couple had a son named Prithvi. Akash has a twin sister named Isha and a younger brother named Anant.
Akash Ambani, 30, is a non-executive director of Reliance Jio. It is Meta Platforms Inc. was part of the teams that negotiated the company’s investment in parent Jio and led Jio’s major acquisitions in the digital space over the past few years. He launched Jio’s 4G services in India with his sister Isha and worked on the launch of JioPhone in 2017.
Last year, Mukesh Ambani reportedly said that he could see his children having the same spark and potential as their father Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance. Akash’s promotion, in recognition of his contributions, comes at a time when the Reliance group is shifting its focus to consumer offerings, Bloomberg reported. Since its debut in 2016, Jio has rocked the country’s telecom industry with free calls and cheap data.
Mukesh Ambani Jio Platforms Ltd. remains the Chairman of the company, which owns all Jio digital services brands, including Reliance Jio Infocomm.
